Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, has added another remarkable achievement to its legacy by securing the First Position for Excellent Performance among 100 5G Use Case Labs evaluated under the national 5G Use Case Labs Gradation Framework. The distinguished award was presented by Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Hon’ble Minister of Communications and Minister of Development of North Eastern Region, Government of India, and Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, Hon'ble Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development during the Bharat 6G Mission event held in New Delhi.

The award was received by Prof. Arun Kumar Singh (Coordinator, 5G Use Case Lab at PEC) and Dr. Simranjit Singh (Co-Coordinator). PEC earned this honour for its exceptional contribution to the growth of 5G technology in India and for its outstanding efforts in leveraging the 5G Use Case Lab to drive innovation, nurture young talent, and build future-ready technological ecosystems.

Established as one of the 100 pioneering 5G Use Case Labs inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, in 2023, the 5G Lab at PEC has been actively developing innovative solutions across diverse sectors, including Agriculture, Industry, Education, and Research & Innovation, thereby contributing significantly to India’s evolving 5G landscape.

All participating labs across the country were assessed by the Ministry of Communications on comprehensive parameters such as innovation, societal impact, scalability, and implementation effectiveness. PEC’s 5G Use Case Lab emerged as the top performer at the national level. The 5G Use Case lab at PEC has trained over 500 participants—including faculty members, students, and research scholars—across various applications and technological domains of 5G, further strengthening technical capacity building.
