POWERGRID Corporation of India Ltd. has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, to set up a ₹17 crore “POWERGRID Centre of Excellence” under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri R.K. Tyagi, Chairman and Managing Director of POWERGRID, fondly recalled his time as a student at PEC and described the initiative as a heartfelt tribute to his alma mater. Chief Secretary Shri Rajeev Verma (IAS) lauded the partnership as a significant step towards advancing research, innovation, and skill development in the country.
Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, Director of PEC, expressed his appreciation for the collaboration and emphasized its transformative potential in enhancing academic and research capabilities. The Centre is envisioned to support undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students, contributing meaningfully to the national goals of a Viksit Bharat, strengthened energy security, and a sustainable, zero-emission future.
