The fourth day of the Industry Academia Expert Lecture Week at Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, unfolded with a diverse set of sessions that brought together rich insights from civil engineering, creative arts, and communication skills.
Initially, Er. Narendra Sharma, Retd. Chief Engineer, BBMB, organized by the Department of Civil Engineering on the theme “Planning and Construction of Dams.” Drawing from his vast professional experience, Er. Sharma explained the concepts and designs of dams in detail, covering aspects such as Hydraulic Model Testing, construction stages, project completion strategies, operation and maintenance works, and the role of Dam Safety Organisations. Through real-life examples, he made the session highly interactive, leaving future civil engineers inspired to explore the practical challenges and innovations in dam construction.
Following this, the Department of Production and Industrial Engineering hosted a captivating session on “Photography and Film” by Mr. Surkhab Shaukin, Managing Director, Studio Shaukin, Chandigarh. Mr. Shaukin shared his personal journey and academic experiences, weaving in valuable lessons on design, art, photography techniques, and the famous Rule of Thirds. Emphasizing that photography is a tool to nurture the artistic eye, he motivated students to see the creative side of engineering. The session was engaging and sparked great enthusiasm among participants.
The final session of the day was organized by the Centre for Management and Humanities (CMH) on “Code of Communication: Soft Skills for the Future Tech World,” delivered by Mr. Lalit Aditya Kaushal, Learning & Development Specialist and Sr. Training Specialist at Amazon, Chandigarh. Focused on personality development for early-career professionals, Mr. Kaushal emphasized the importance of communication, collaboration, and adaptability in today’s tech-driven workplace. He encouraged students to invest in soft skills that complement their technical expertise, preparing them for the transition from academia to the professional world.
The sessions on Day 4 beautifully reflected the multi-disciplinary approach of PEC, combining technical expertise, creative exploration, and essential life skills to nurture well-rounded engineers for the future.
