A delegation from Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, comprising Prof. Arun Kumar Singh, Head, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering; Prof. Sanjeev Kumar, Head, Department of Physics; Prof. Sandeep Kumar, Department of Physics; along with postgraduate and doctoral students, actively participated in SEMICON India 2025—the country’s largest semiconductor conference—held at Yashobhoomi (India International Convention and Expo Centre), New Delhi, from 2nd to 4th September 2025.

The fourth edition of SEMICON India 2025 was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, on 2nd September. The prestigious event was jointly organized by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and SEMI. This year, the conference witnessed participation from over 350 exhibiting companies and delegates representing 48 countries and regions, showcasing global expertise and collaboration.

The event covered a wide spectrum of topics including semiconductor design, fabrication, display manufacturing, packaging, research and development, state policies, and ecosystem development. It emphasized India’s vision of building a robust semiconductor ecosystem, aimed at achieving self-reliance and global competitiveness in this critical sector.

Aligning with this national vision, PEC has been actively contributing towards capacity building in semiconductor education and research. The institute established its Semiconductor Research Centre, inaugurated by the Hon’ble President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, on 16th November 2021. To ensure state-of-the-art training and industry exposure, the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) has signed MoUs with Micron Technologies, SCL Mohali, Cadence, and VLSI Society of India. Currently, PEC is offering undergraduate and postgraduate courses in VLSI design and technology, equipping students with advanced skills to meet industry demands.

The participation of PEC faculty and students in SEMICON India 2025 further reinforces the institute’s commitment to advancing India’s semiconductor mission and nurturing a new generation of experts to shape the nation’s technological future.
