The team consisting of Survagya Bali, Nikhil Saini, and Mayank Bhatnagar, final-year Mechanical Engineering students, recently represented Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh in the Grand Finale of Bajaj’s TORQ & OHM Challenge. These students were declared Campus Winners and went on to win both the Quiz Round and the Design Thinking Challenge, securing top honors among national finalists.
The team was awarded a cash prize of ₹30,000 for their outstanding performance and was facilitated by the Director of PEC for bringing pride to the institution. The achievement was supported and coordinated by the Career Development and Guidance Centre CDGC, PEC.
Bajaj conducted the TORQ & OHM Challenge with participation from over 1,500 students representing 29 premier engineering institutions across India, including top IITs, NITs, IISc Bangalore, PEC Chandigarh, and several leading private universities. Following multiple evaluation rounds, select campus winners advanced to the Grand Finale, where they were presented with real-world engineering problems to solve.
The competition focused on technical knowledge, decision-making, and creative problem-solving within the context of electric vehicle innovation and mobility solutions. The team from Punjab Engineering College presented a solution to reduce the noise generated by motorcycle main stands during retraction.
After conducting motion and impact analysis, they proposed a damping mechanism to minimize vibrations and absorb shock. Their design was praised for its technical viability and practical application, demonstrating strong problem-solving and design capabilities.
esteemed Director of PEC, Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bhatia, congratulated the team on their excellent performance, personally felicitated them, and wished them success in their future endeavors in the field of engineering, design, and innovation.
