Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, solemnly celebrated the 135th Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution, a visionary jurist, economist, social reformer, and champion of social justice and equality. The programme was organized by the SC/ST Cell of the institute to honor his enduring legacy and contributions.

The programme commenced with a ceremonial lamp lighting and felicitation of the dignitaries. Prof. Balwinder Singh, Chairperson, SC/ST Cell, addressed the gathering and highlighted the cell’s initiatives, welfare policies, and grievance redressal mechanisms aimed at supporting students and staff from marginalized communities. He also encouraged students to pursue higher education as a means of empowerment.

Sh. Ratan Lal described Dr. Ambedkar as the “voice of the voiceless” and emphasized the importance of responsible and informed citizenship. Prof. Sukhwinder Singh spoke on the transformative power of education, reiterating Dr. Ambedkar’s guiding principle of “Educate, Agitate, Organize,” and emphasized the role of inclusive policies in building an equitable society. Sh. Tejinder Pal Singh highlighted Dr. Ambedkar’s vision of equality, referring to the ideals of “One Vote, One Value” and “One Man, One Value,” and emphasized their continued relevance in contemporary society.

The event was graced by Prof. Uma Batra, Deputy Director, Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), as the Chief Guest, who emphasized Dr. Ambedkar’s vision of justice, equality, and constitutional morality, and encouraged students to acquire knowledge for the betterment of society.

The programme also included a prize distribution ceremony, where winners of competitions organized as part of the celebrations were felicitated. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Arun Kumar Singh, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, faculty members, staff, and students for their presence and contribution.
