Dr. Ravindra Kumar Tyagi(Electrical Engineering in 1987) Appointed Director General Power Foundation of India

Ravindra Kumar Tyagi has joined Power Foundation of India as Director General with effect from May 27, 2026.

The appointment marks a significant addition to the leadership of the power sector think tank operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Power, Government of India.

Over 35 Years of Experience in Power Sector

Ravindra Kumar Tyagi brings more than 35 years of experience across multiple areas of the power sector, including:

  • Power systems
  • Transmission
  • Grid operations
  • Asset management
  • Load dispatch
  • Engineering
  • Telecom
  • Safety management
  • Business development

Before joining the Power Foundation of India, he served as Chairman and Managing Director of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited.

He also held key leadership positions including Director (Operations) and Executive Director for the North-Eastern Region at the company.

 

Strong Academic and International Credentials

Dr. Tyagi is an Electrical Engineer from Punjab Engineering College and holds an M.Tech in Energy Studies from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi.

He is also a Fulbright Scholar from Carnegie Mellon University.

 

Recognized Global Thought Leader

Over the course of his career, Dr. Tyagi has represented India in several international technical committees and contributed extensively to the development of transmission system standards globally.

He has authored more than 50 technical papers and received multiple recognitions, including:

The prestigious 1906 Award for contribution to IEC standards development

Distinguished Member recognition from CIGRE

 

Expected to Strengthen Power Sector Initiatives

Power Foundation of India said Dr. Tyagi’s leadership and industry expertise are expected to further strengthen initiatives related to innovation, policy advocacy, collaboration and sustainable growth in India’s power sector.

 

Power Foundation of India is a think tank and policy advocacy body functioning under the aegis of the Ministry of Power, Government of India. The organization works on policy research, sectoral development and knowledge initiatives for India’s power ecosystem.
