Chandigarh Administration’s Energy Management Cell Signs MoU with PEC Chandigarh to Drive Energy Efficiency and Conservation

In a significant step towards advancing energy efficiency and sustainable development, the Energy Management Cell, notified as the State Designated Agency (SDA) under the Engineering Department of the Chandigarh Administration, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh on 29th September 2025.

 

The MoU was formally signed by Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, Director, PEC, and Sh. Pawan Kumar Sharma, Head, Energy Management Cell/SDA, Chandigarh, in the presence of officials and faculty members from both institutions. Attendees included Prof. Rintu Khanna (HoD, EED), Prof. Rajesh Kumar Kanda (Head, Alumni, Corporate and International Relations), Prof. Tilak Thakur, Dr. Tejinder Singh Saggu, and Dr. Ajay Kumar from PEC. Representing SDA were Ms. Shivani (Energy Consultant), Ms. Geeta (Account Officer), and Mr. Ramesh Thakur (Senior Assistant).

 

This collaboration seeks to jointly undertake technical studies, research, and awareness programs on energy efficiency and conservation. It will also promote capacity-building initiatives, adoption of innovative energy-saving technologies, and technical expertise for the successful implementation of energy efficiency projects.

Welcoming this step, Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, Director, PEC, said that such initiatives will work for the greater good and help ensure that the outcomes reach the end users of the system and society at large.

 

Speaking on the occasion, the officials emphasized that the partnership will foster knowledge sharing, academic-industry synergy, and practical application of sustainable energy solutions in the Union Territory. The MoU represents a strong commitment towards achieving national energy efficiency targets and cultivating a culture of energy conservation across sectors.

 

Aligned with the objectives of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), New Delhi, this collaboration will provide robust support for the implementation of energy conservation schemes and programs in Chandigarh, while also contributing to the broader goals of sustainable development and reduction of carbon footprint.
