Er. Yogesh Kumar, former Director on the Board of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL), Bangalore, is a leading Aerospace Technologist in the country. A gold-medalist in Aeronautical Engineering from Punjab Engineering College (PEC), Chandigarh; PG from IIT, Madras; two year PG design course on Aircraft Environmental Control Systems at Normalair Garret Ltd., UK. During his career in HAL as General Manager (LCA) and Head, Aircraft R&D Centre, his leadership resulted in two full composite prototypes of Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) during Tejas programme (1995-2006) and maiden flights of two crucial technology demonstrators. The ‘Jaguar’ upgrade programme (DARIN-II), a model concurrent design and line production, was completed in record time with first flight in just one year from go ahead. The development of the Intermediate Jet Trainer (IJT) where by employing concurrent engineering with computer-aided design, the team could achieve the maiden flight of the first prototype within twenty months from metal cut, creating an international record and bench mark. He was also involved in the development of Alternate Energy System for solar power generation for remote off grid application.
