We are pleased to invite you to our next session of PEC Alumni Webinar Series 2020. The Office of Alumni & International Relations at PEC has taken this initiative to conduct the online webinar series to facilitate the dissemination of ideas and knowledge through experiential learning of our Alumni worldwide. This is our seventh session on the series.
Continuing with the PEC Alumni Webinar Series; next, we have the pleasure to have Alum Ashok Kumar Chopra, Former MD RailTel and GM CORE Retd. He did his Electrical Engineering in 1964 and, in 1965; he joined the Indian Railway Service of Signal Engineers (IRSSE) in Western Railway at Bombay. He has mostly worked as a Signal and Telecommunication Engineer in 8 divisions of Indian Railways in various capacities. His vast work experience includes:
• Additional Divisional Railway Manager in administration; in Bilaspur, South Eastern Railway.
• Divisional Railway Manager, Chief Signal & Telecommunication Engineer and Chief Personnel Officer, Bhavnagar; Western Railway.
• Also worked in Railway Board as Executive Director Signals (and later as Additional Member Signals).
He had been on deputation to Jordan, as Chief Signal and Telecommunication Engineer to Aqaba Railway Corporation through RITES from 1981-84. He also served as General Manager, S&T in IRCON in New Delhi to secure and execute projects within India and in Algeria, Iraq, Turkey, Zambia from 1986-1990.
In September 2000, he was assigned to set up the RailTel Corporation from initial stages. He headed the organisation as its first Managing Director. During this assignment, he had the dual responsibility of heading Central Organisation of Railway Electrification (CORE) as General Manager (2001-2002) and side by side looking after the setting up of RailTel Corporation.
He has also published a book named “Indian Railway-Silent Transformation” in 2007. Through this book, he shares his candid experiences for those in service, planning, media and public.
After retirement, he was associated for 13 years as Consultant for Railway Signalling in Scott Wilson India/ URS / AECOM India for various typical Railway Signalling projects with Rail Vikas Nigam, Dedicated Freight Corridor, new Railway line for Dhamra Port and outsourcing of Signalling Design from Network Rail UK to India.
Presently, he is working for Aarvee Associates as Team Leader and General Consultant for Eastern Corridor of DFCCI for Train Protection and Warning System from Ludhiana to Sonnagar section (1320 Kms).
He will be presenting on the topic “Indian Railways Signalling system” on July 1, 17:30 IST. He will be sharing his 55 years of worth work experience and knowledge to make people aware about the Indian Railways Signalling System and the opportunities involved.
