January 15th - Indian Army Day, the day is celebrated in recognition of Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa's taking over as the first Commander - in - Chief of the Indian Army from General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander - in - Chief of India, on 15 January 1949. Army Day marks a day to salute the valiant soldiers who have sacrificed their lives to protect the country and its citizens. On 15th January 2021, India will celebrate its 73rd Indian Army Day.
New Year not only requires new resolutions and goals, but it also requires the courage and sacrifices to achieve them. This Army Day, Punjab Engineering College is going to host the 10th lecture, in the ongoing PEC Centenary Lecture Series, with a person who very well defines that courage and sacrifices have no boundaries, 'The 2016 Surgical Strike Hero' Lieutenant General Deependra Singh Hooda.
With a career of spanning forty years, he served the country from being the 'Second Lieutenant' to the 'Lieutenant General'. The General Officer was the Northern Army Commander during the 'surgical strike' in September 2016. He is an alumnus of National Defence Academy, Pune and was commissioned into the Indian Army on 15th December 1976. In recognition for his exemplary military service, the General Officer has been awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal, the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal and the Param Vishisht Seva Medal by the President of India.

"Leadership in Times of Crisis: Lessons from Army" on 15th January 2021 at 7.00 PM IST on PEC’s Official YouTube channel. This lecture is a part of the ongoing PEC Centenary Lecture Series hosted by Punjab Engineering College as it celebrates the grand milestone of entering its 100th year since its establishment in 1921.
