Mr. Surinder Nath Vig 15 Sep 1936- 17 Jan 2021 PEC/Civil/1960

Mr. Surinder Nath Vig was born on 15 Sep 1936 in District Montgomery of West
Punjab (Now Pakistan). After completing his Bsc, he joined PEC Chandigarh in 1956 and Graduated in Civil Engineering in 1960.

He was one of the 4 students of PEC 1960 who got selected direct for Class1 service in Punjab Irrigation Department on 1.3.1961. He was allocated to Haryana State in 1966 and rose up to Engineer-in-Chief, Haryana Irrigation Department. He was also MD, Haryana State Minor Irrigation and Tubewell Corporation. He had won National award from National Invention Promotion Board in 1973 as co-inventor of portable bolt cutter while working on BSL project. He was richly experienced in areas of tunnel excavation, tunnel lining, tunnel formwork, quarry excavation, maintenance of dams, reservoirs, canals tunnel etc. and lining of water courses in Haryana. He had authored a couple of papers on the design of most economic sections of watercourses.

After retirement, he had enjoyable years in Chandigarh in the company of family and friends. After short heart ailment, he died on 17 – 1 – 2021 in Chandigarh. He is survived by his wife (Rekha) and two daughters (Priti and Vineeta).  We have lost an illustrious Alumnus of PEC 1960.
