Mr. Avtar Singh 26th Dec 1938-25th June 2021 Chandigarh PEC/Civil/1960

Late Shri  Avtar Singh ji was born on  26 -12- 1938  in Quetta ( Now Pakistan ) He was a very bright student. After completing Intermediate from Jallandar, he joined Punjab Engineering College Chandigarh in 1956.   After passing B. Sc. Engg. (Civil) in 1960, he joined ME course in Highways at PEC, Chandigarh.
He was one of the four bright students of PEC 1960 batch  who got selected for  direct class 1 post in Irrigation department  of  Punjab.

In 1977 he proceeded on deputation to Algeria for five years and headed a multinational team for the scrutiny of various projects. On return from Algeria, he joined Ranjit Sagar Dam project as Director Design. He was promoted to the rank of Chief Engineer, Construction, in 1990. He excelled himself in the design and construction of various Hydroectric projects. He was  appointed Chairman of the Dam Safety Committee of Punjab . He also headed Punjab State Tubewell Corporation. Was elected as President of Punjab Engineering College Old Student Association from 1996-2000.

After retirement, he spent some wonderful years in Chandigarh. For  the last few years he has not been keeping good health and passed away on 25 Jun 2021. He is survived by his wife
( Baljit Kaur ), one son ( Gurpreet Singh ) and one daughter   ( Harvinder Kaur ).

We have lost one of the bright boys  Alumnus of 1960 PEC.
