Maj. Gen. Vir Sudershan Dhawan 6 February, 1939 - 8 May 2021 Noida, UP PEC/Civil Engineering/1956

Maj Gen Vir Sudershan Dhawan was born on 6 February, 1939 in Karachi. He was a bright student from Ambala, joined Punjab Engineering College in 1956, after completing his Intermediate examination.

After graduating with a B.Sc. Engineering (Civil) degree from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, he received permanent commission in the army in 1960.He served the country during the 1962, 1965 and 1971 wars. He was Posted in the Border Roads Organization in Leh, Ladakh. During 1962 China War, he was assigned to build an alternate road from Leh to Chushul over Changla Pass (over 18000 ft in subzero temperature), which was the highest road in the world at that point. He also Served in Army Engineering Regiments in J&K and Sikkim, China-Sikkim Indo-China Border.

For 18 years, he was with the Directorate General of Quality Assurance (Ministry of Defense) and rose to the rank of Maj General.
In 1984 he obtained an MBA degree with specialization in Operational Research from Pune University.
He had Retired from the Army on 29 Feb, 1996 as Addl Director Gen in Directorate General of Quality Assurance under Ministry of Defense.

After retirement he worked as a consultant in the field of Quality Management ISO-9000 certification. He settled in NOIDA, UP after retirement and had some wonderful years in the company of family and friends. In April 2021, he was admitted in the hospital due to COVID and passed away on 8 May 2021.

He is survived by his wife Mrs. Gulshan Dhawan, daughter Dr. Chandan Marwah, and son Dr. Gaurav Dhawan.
We have lost an illustrious alumni of PEC. May he have Sadgati, Om Shanti.
